Maggie Rose

In recent years Maggie has returned to her first love, the American songbook. A native of Poughkeepsie, NY, as a child she sang standards while walking to kindergarten and in a “classy” restaurant, Nick Beni’s. “I was probably the only eight year-old torch singer in Poughkeepsie.” Maggie’s musical influences include Billie Holiday, June Christy, Ella Fitzgerald, and the young Doris Day.
In Boston, Maggie has performed at numerous venues, including a seven-month engagement at the Encore Lounge, The Hyatt Regency-Boston, the Boston Center for the Arts, The Fireplace, the Artists-at-Large Gallery, C. R. Sparks, Raffael’s, Bob the Chef’s, Kennedy’s Midtown, The Hartwell House, The Barking Crab, and the Fairmont Copley Plaza.
Maggie’s outside-Boston performances include Club Theolonius in Santiago, Chile; L’Isola Fiorita in Ischia, Italy; and several San Francisco Bay area venues, including The Left Bank and Rock Soup. Closer to home, she performed in “The Rodgers and Hart Review” with the Durham Players in Durham, NH and at Sixty-Two On Wharf in Salem, MA.
Maggie has also performed live on WGBH’s “Jazz Songbook”.
When I sing, and it’s going right, I feel like I’m inside the song, the music. And because it’s jazz, I’m listening to see what happens next, often surprised by what I do in response to the music.
